Young kids contributes to Karamay's petroleum industry
1958 witnessed the third anniversary of the Karamay Oilfield. With fierce competition, the departments of Karamay Oilfield made a lot of innovations and the "June 1" factory was among the many attempts.
The "June 1" factory was composed of pupils of the No 1 Primary School. Apart from the ten members of the oil production crew, all the others were boys from Class Two, Grade Four.
"Though we are young, we are not inferior to the men and women in manufacturing. We can take care of both study and work," said 13-year-old Cai Tianfu, vice factory director of the "June 1" factory.
About ten members, each ten years old, went to the Black Oil Mountain to collect waste oil for the refinement team to manufacture. Sometimes it was already midnight when they filled their tanks.
One of the pupils in the photo is Yang Jing, now 66, who used to be a member of the "June 1" factory of Karamay No 1 Primary School. He retired from the national security bureau's Karamay office.
When Yang Jiang walks past Black Oil Mountain, he always thinks of the days when he and his young friends worked to get waste oil for refinement.
"When I look back, I think of that time as an enthusiastic era when all of us wanted to contribute to the nation and this enthusiasm inspired us to work hard," said Yang Jing.
